Bette E. Stone

Bette E. Stone 87, of DeKalb died Wednesday, July 8, 2015 at Kishwaukee Hospital. She was born August 4, 1927 in Mapleton, IA and was the daughter of Robert E. and Beulah Mae (Ferdig) Brooks.

Bette graduated from Mapleton High School class of 1945. She married James E. Stone in Chicago, IL on November 28, 1946. She worked for Western Union Telegraph Company in Omaha, NE for many years. Bette volunteered at the Food Pantry in Mapleton, IA, she was a member of Mapleton Legion Auxiliary Unit 496 and St. John's United Methodist Church in Mapleton, IA. Bette was a former member of the Royal Neighbors of America, a Girl Scout Asst. Leader for many years, and Maple Valley School Foundation/Scarlet O'Hatters Charter Member in Mapleton, IA. She was a proud member of the 12 ^th Armored Division and she also enjoyed her many friends at the DeKalb Senior Center and TransVac.

Survivors include; daughter Pamela Stone of DeKalb, and sons, Greg (Norma) Stone of Cary, IL and Matthew Stone of Sycamore. Seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and three sisters; Marian Muller of Spencer, IA, Shirley Muckey of Garden Grove, CA and Barbara Newman of Fort Smith, AR and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband James, son Kerry James, daughter; Debra A. Postelwait-Stone brothers; Robert and James and sister; Janet Blockel.

Bette graciously donated her body to Northern Illinois University Biological Sciences. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Mapleton, IA.
