Edith "Edie
M. Wisdom
Apr 14, 1934 — Dec 21, 2024
DeKalb
Edith ("Edie") M. Wisdom
April 14, 1934 – December 21, 2024
She died peacefully in her sleep. Born April 14, 1934 to Fred and Tillie (Flodin) Carlson, Edie (she hated Edith!) was a lifelong resident of DeKalb. She graduated from DeKalb High School in 1952. After graduation, she worked at Wurlitzer. She met Carl Wisdom at the softball fields while he was playing. They married on September 19, 1959. Together they had four children: Dan, twins Patty and an infant who passed at birth, and Leslie. Edie took a break to raise the family while Carl worked. They divorced in 1986 but remained good friends until Carl's passing in 2008. Upon returning to the job, she was employed by TV Clinic & Appliance and Sycamore Savings and Loan. During "retirement", she worked at Farm & Fleet, DeKalb Swine Breeders, and the Red Cross.
A devout and lifelong churchgoer, her grandparents, Theodore and Emma Carlson, helped establish the Swedish Covenant Church, which became Hillcrest Covenant Church when they moved to their current location. Edie served the church as a choir member, Sunday School teacher, and a proud member of the Covenant Women.
Along with her love of God, Edie also loved God's animals, especially cats! All kinds: big or small. There was never a cat or dog she didn't try to talk to or pet. Edie enjoyed her family and friends, especially at family gatherings. It didn't have to be birthdays and holidays, either. She was a Die Hard Cubs fan and later in life loved the Bulls.
She is survived by son, Dan (Gina) Wisdom, and their daughters, Nicole (Mark) Cardy and Lauren Wisdom; daughter Leslie (Jim) Doran, and their children, Kevin Doran, Michelle (Derrik) Florkiewicz, and Rachel Doran. She was also blessed with a great-grandson, Theo Florkiewicz.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister and brother-in-law, Audrey (Jack) Riddell; daughter, Patty, and numerous aunts, uncles, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2025, from 10:00am until 11:00am at Hillcrest Covenant Church 1515 N 1St St. DeKalb. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at 11:00am at the church with Pastor Jen Zerby officiating. Burial will be immediately following the service at Fairview Park Cemetery in DeKalb. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Hillcrest Covenant Church. Arrangements were entrusted to Finch Funeral Home 310 Oak St. DeKalb, IL 60115 815-758-3841.
