Elena S. Canlas-Ravelo

Elena S. Canlas-Ravelo, of DeKalb, IL, died peacefully on February 23, 2018 under hospice care at Oak Crest Retirement Center. She was 65.

Born on January 11, Elena was the eldest of 11 children born to Alejandro and Josefina Canlas of the Pampanga province in the Philippines. She always saw food as her own way of bringing comfort, joy, and grace to those she cared about, and it was a passion she followed through her role as Director of Food Service at Oak Crest and as an active member of the local Filipino and Catholic communities.

Surviving are her husband, Tony Ravelo, of DeKalb, IL; her daughter, Tricia Ravelo, of Providence, RI; and nine beloved siblings and their families in the Philippines. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother.

Memorial mass will be held at 10:30am Saturday, March 3 at St. Mary Catholic Church in DeKalb with Father Perfecto Vasquez officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Voluntary Action Center of DeKalb County.
