Sycamore
Gerald "Jerry" R. Brown
Gerald Russell Brown, age 87 of Sycamore, IL, passed peacefully from this life to heaven on Easter Sunday, March 31, 2024. He was born on December 18, 1936, in Rockford, IL and was the son of John and Corrine Brown. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Jerry, as he was known, will be joining his loving wife of 60 years, Mary Lynn (Nichols) Brown in heaven. He is survived by his three children Jeff (Susanne) Brown of Sycamore, Kelly (Terry) Miller of Sycamore, and Darcy (John) Hoffman of Knoxville, TN, his eight grandchildren Melissa (Brown) Mobile, Angela (Brown) Amoroso, Bradley Brown, Ryan Miller, Karissa (Miller) Riffel, Brielle (Hoffman) Crouse, Brittany (Hoffman) Epperly, and Paige (Hoffman) Kocur, and 17 great-grandchildren.
Above all, Jerry was a deeply committed and involved family man. Being the ultimate dad he was, he not only coached his three children in sports in their younger years, but also never missed a game. He continued to love, support, and encourage his family's passions throughout the years, and he carried this on throughout his grandchildren's and great-grandchildren's years. On and off the field, he was his family's number one fan and will be honored forever for always showing up.
Jerry enjoyed most sports but had a special passion for golf. He especially cherished his time on the course playing with his son, Jeff. Being each other's best friend, their remarkable bond was evident. His love for golf remains among the most treasured memories for many family members… and it was not a complete round with Jerry, unless cigars were involved.
The family will remember his quick and witty sense of humor, his love for camping, hiking, golfing, and fishing, and his appreciation for endless mornings drinking coffee on the porch. Jerry was his family's greatest confidant. His ability to listen, comfort, and provide a safe space for family was unmatched. His family's happiest, fondest memories were made possible because he prioritized family and kept his circle close. The family holds on to the unconditional love and patience he portrayed every day.
Jerry's legacy lives on through his three children who continue to exemplify what it means to put family first, to lean in to the small moments, and to celebrate and live life to the fullest.
A private family celebration of an amazing life will be held at a later date. Arrangements are entrusted to Finch Funeral Home 310 Oak St. DeKalb, IL 60115 815-758-3841.
