John "Butch" C. Rutter

John "Butch" C. Rutter 86, of DeKalb, IL passed away Friday, November 14, 2025, at Oak Crest. He was born February 17, 1939, in Freeport, IL and was the son of Williard and Alice (Francisco) Rutter.

John graduated from Maple Park High School in 1957, beginning a life marked by dedication, faith, and family. On November 4, 1961, he married the love of his life, Wanda Stroyan, at the First Baptist Church in DeKalb, a union that became the heart of his world.

He devoted 35 years to Floit Sand and Gravel, starting out behind the wheel as a truck driver and eventually serving as a dispatcher. His strong work ethic and steady presence earned the respect of everyone who knew him. John was also a proud member of Grace United Methodist Church in Maple Park, where his faith remained an important part of his life. He also loved his time as a volunteer firefighter at the Maple Park Fire Department for over three decades.

Among all his accomplishments, nothing mattered more to John than the things he loved most: the quiet joy of a good round of golf, and the laughter-filled moments shared with his grandchildren and great-grandchild. These simple, cherished times were where his heart felt most at home.

Survivors include wife Wanda of DeKalb, sons; John (Polly) Rutter Jr. of Naperville, IL and Dan (Michelle) Rutter of Aurora, IL. Grandchildren; Breanna Rutter, Broc (Tori) Rutter, Rachel Rutter, Riley Rutter, and Cole Rutter. One great grandchild Lilly, and several nieces and   nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Sally (Roger) King, and in-laws; Arthur and Eugenia Stroyan.

Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests for donations to be sent to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital or Grace United Methodist Church of Maple Park. Arrangements were entrusted to Finch Funeral Home 310 Oak St. DeKalb, IL 60115 815-758-3841.
