John Simon Dorn

John Simon Dorn 81, of DeKalb passed away Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at home. He was born August 6, 1943, in Janesville, WI and was the son of Henry and Neva (Sullivan) Dorn.

After graduating from high school, John proudly pursued higher education, earning his bachelor's degree from the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh. A dedicated and hardworking individual, he built a successful career as a salesman in pharmaceutical packaging, where his friendly demeanor and commitment left a lasting impression on many. In 1967, he married the love of his life, Sharon L. Gapen, beginning a beautiful journey together filled with love and shared memories.

John served his country with honor in the United States Navy from June 27, 1962, to August 25, 1966, aboard the USS Ranger (CVA-61). Through his determination and skill, he achieved the rank of E5 by the end of his service, a testament to his dedication and leadership.

John's life was filled with the joys of his passions. He relished afternoons on the golf course, cheered enthusiastically for college football, and found excitement in action-packed and military movies. Above all, his greatest joy came from the time he spent with his beloved sons, creating memories and sharing laughter that will be cherished forever.

Survivors include; sons; Jon (Breana) Dorn of Crystal Lake, IL and Jason (Sally) Dorn of Pingree Grove, IL. Grandchildren; Kyle, TJ, and Rylie all of Crystal Lake, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Sharon, and brother Hank Dorn.
