Artist and Art Educator Passes

Last week a renowned artist and Northern Illinois University art educator passed.  Professor Emeritus Joseph "Joe" Wood created art through much of his life and taught studio art at NIU for almost 30 years.  He and his late wife, Betty, were well-liked and respected in the community by their many friends and colleagues.

He was a former Marine and he served with honor in the Korean War.  Joe earned his Master's Degree in Fine Art from Yale University and continued his education throughout his life.  Some of Joe's art can be seen at NIU and was on display last month in the art museum in Altgeld Hall on the NIU campus.  His loss will be felt by the art department as well as by those who knew and respected him.  He is survived by his sons Bill and Paul and by two grandchildren, Luna and Sol.

A memorial service is planned to remember the life of Joe Wood at the Congregational Church on North 1 st Street in DeKalb.  The service begins at 2 pm on Friday, November 16.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks that Joe be remembered through a donation in his name to the Alzheimer's Association of America. Arrangements were entrusted to: Finch Funeral Home 310 Oak St. DeKalb, IL, 60115 (815) 758-3841.
