Larry A. Davis, aged 83, of Rockford, IL, passed away on July 26, 2026. Born on July 1, 1943, Larry lived a life marked by warmth, laughter, family and friends and dedicated service to his country. Known for his infectious smile and the ability to make friends everywhere, we often joked that it took him hours to get out of a store due to all the friends he would meet and talk to.

Larry served honorably in the Army and deployed to Korea, where he demonstrated his commitment and patriotism. You hardly ever saw him without a veteran’s baseball hat on! After his military service, he married his high school sweetheart, Jo Ann on October 8, 1966. He then began a career as a proud union glazer, a role he held with dedication until his retirement. He was a graduate of DeKalb High School and cherished his roots and the lifelong friendships he made there. Larry’s hobbies included spending quality time with family and friends and being an enthusiastic fan of the Dallas Cowboys and Chicago Cubs. In his younger years, he enjoyed camping, snowmobiling, boating, and fishing; activities that reflected his love for adventure and the outdoors.

Larry was a beloved husband to Jo Ann for 60 years, a loving father to Julianna Ladas and James Davis (Jody), and a cherished grandfather to Nicholas Ladas (Melissa), Brennan Ladas, Kaden Ladas (Ella), Trevor Davis, and Jersey Lankford. He also adored his two great-grandchildren. Brothers; Fred Davis of FL, Daniel (Jan) Davis of Genoa, and sister; Nancy (Mike) David-Falco of Sycamore. He is preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Gladys Davis, and his brother, Jon Davis.

The family invites friends and loved ones to gather in memory of Larry at Finch Funeral Home in DeKalb with a visitation on Saturday, August 1, 2026, from 9:00am-12:00pm, with full military honors to take place at 11:45am provided by DeKalb American Legion Post 66. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at 12:00pm.

Larry’s life was a testament to the joy of genuine connection and the enduring bonds of family. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew him.

A thank you to his wonderful caregiver Ray, his “buddy” over the past 15 months who kept him happy, safe, and took amazing care of him and was able to be with Jo Ann and Julianna when daddy passed.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the family to be established at a later date. Arrangements were entrusted to Finch Funeral Home 310 Oak St. DeKalb, IL 60115 815-758-3841.
