Marcella Y. "Sally" Stewart

Marcella Y. "Sally" Stewart 100, of DeKalb passed away peacefully on Monday, April 18, 2022, at home.  She was born March 30, 1922, in Plano, IL and was the daughter of Arthur E. and Lavada (Neff) Dannewitz.

She was the youngest of four children.  Her childhood was spent on her family's farm in Plano.  During The Great Depression the family had to move to a house in town.  At the age of twelve she lost her mother and a sister in a fatal car accident.  After the recovery her father became the owner of a car dealership in Plano.  Sally met her husband Arnold (Arnie) Stewart at a roller rink in Sandwich. The couple fell in love and were married in Mineral Wells, Texas on April 4, 1943.  The next day Arnie left to serve in WWII (Army). Sally did not see Arnie again until December 26, 1945.  While Arnie was away Sally joined the workforce at Lyons Manufacturing Company in Montgomery, IL.  There she made parts for the Corsair fighter planes.  She was an original Rosie the Riveter.  Later she worked at GE in DeKalb, at DeKalb Telephone Co. as an operator, and NIU food service at Grant Tower.  Sally was an excellent seamstress. She made all her girls dresses for homecoming and prom.  Like Arnie, she loved to play golf.  Sally had a hole-in-one on the same day as Arnie but at different courses.  We all joked that Mom's hole-in-one was on a longer hole.  Sally loved to dance especially with her favorite partner Arnie.  They even made their own signature hop step. The girls and their families loved to watch them cut a rug.  Sally was so very proud of her girls and their families.  Family always came first.  She gave the best back scratches and she always had bacon and eggs at request of her grandkids.

Survivors include; daughters; Marilyn (Donald "Bill") Read of Oxford, MI, Cindy (Jerry) Sullivan of DeKalb, and Patti (Dick) Lofgren of DeKalb.  Grandchildren; Nicole (Steve) Pawlaczyk, Pamela (Michael) Gardner, Jerry (Dawn) Sullivan, Andy (Kelly) Sullivan, Scott (Emily) Sullivan, Chris "Hoey" (Vanessa) Sullivan, Katelyn Lofgren, Brad (Kelly) Lofgren, Tracey (Brian) Krzysiak, and Derek (Chesney) Lofgren.  Twenty great grandchildren; Nathan, David, and Karlie Pawlaczyk, Valerie and Read Gardner, Skyler and Brooke Sullivan, Alex (Kurt) Diehl, Aidan, Kendra, and Keeva Sullivan, Coen, Nash, and Elsie Sullivan, Grayson, Landon, and Olivia Sullivan, Hayley and Brenden Krzysiak and Sophia Lofgren. One great-great grandchild; Riley Diehl. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Arnie, two sisters; Dorothy Dannewitz and Frances Martin, one brother Gerald Dannewitz, and son-in-law Jerry Sullivan.
