Mary E. Byars age 80 of DeKalb, IL, died on Tuesday October 16, 2012 in her residence in DeKalb. Born on February 14, 1932 in Houlka, MS, she was the daughter of Zatch and Martha (Tackett) Shempert.

Mary had worked for Swift and Company in Rochelle, and then worked for Cumberland Gap Provisions in KY., retiring in 1997. She had lived in the DeKalb community since 1997 moving here from Tazewell, TN. She enjoyed her grandchildren, and especially her great-grandchildren.

Survivors include: daughter: Bonnie (Carl) Swanson of DeKalb, sons: Larry (Loni) Byars of Rochelle, Gary (Ronda) Byars, grandsons: Brandon (Christy) Swanson, Brian (Jenny) Swanson, great-grandchildren: Travis and Ryann Swanson, Ella and Evan Swanson all of DeKalb, sisters: Betty (Gerald) Holder, Josephine (Bob) Mixon, brothers: Carlton (Peggy) Shempert, Billy (Daphne) Shempert all of Houlka, MS. Preceded in death by: parents, brothers: Marvin, Otis, Cloise, and Chuck.

Graveside burial will be at later date in Houlka, MS. Cremation will he held at the Finch Crematory. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society in care of the funeral home.
