Michael Shawn Gordon

Michael Shawn Gordon, 60, of Chicago, died peacefully in his sleep surrounded by family Sunday, December 12, 2021, at Northwestern Medicine Kishwaukee Hospital.

Born August 31, 1961, in Sycamore, Illinois, Michael was the son of James and Carole (Askelson) Gordon.

Michael graduated from DeKalb High School and earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and later continued his education at The University of Chicago Booth School of Business. He was the managing director at The Chicago Capital Management Group since its 1993 founding.

Relentlessly curious and a voracious reader with a passion for history, Michael used each day as an opportunity to learn and grow. He enjoyed golfing, skiing and fishing on Lake Michigan. At the time of his passing, he was looking forward to obtaining his private pilot license. Michael was also an avid traveler and his passport told the story of a life well-lived.

More than anything, Michael treasured the time he spent with close friends and embraced his role as uncle—he was an inspiration to his nephew and nieces and his legacy will live on in them.

He is survived by his brother, Seth (Tracy) of Sussex, Wisconsin; nephew, Connor; and nieces, Sophia and Allison.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

No funeral is immediately planned. The family will notify friends and loved ones when a service is scheduled. Cremation has taken place at the Finch Crematory.
