Michael J. Plesa

Michael J. Plesa passed away in his home on Monday July 23, 2018.  Born in DeKalb on September 30, 1928 to Katherine and Eli Plesa.  Graduated from DeKalb Township High School in 1947.  Married Jeanne Pyfer on February 4, 1961 she preceded him in death on March 31, 2012.  Served in the US Navy on the USS Helena during the Korean War.  Retired from General Electric in 1988 with over 35 years of service.  Lifelong member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Knights Club. He was a lifelong Cub Fan and enjoyed going to the race track and spending time with his family and friends.  Preceded in death by his parents, wife Jeanne, daughter Anne Elliott, infant daughter, siblings: Jack and George Babich, Mary McMillan, Anna Singleton, two nephews and a niece.  Survivors include daughters: Susan Harris (Ken), Kathy Trumbo (Steve), Donna Doering (Bill), Barbara Atkinson (Geoff), and Jennifer Plesa, six grandchildren: Matthew (Cassandra) Harris, Ryan Trumbo, Jessica (Ryan) Evans, Shannon Doering, Kristin Doering and Mallory Atkinson, one great-grandson – Franklin Evans, sister: Katy Tomasovich, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday July 28, 2018 at 10:30am in St. Mary Catholic Church with Father Dean Russell officiating. Burial will follow mass in the St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in DeKalb with military honors provided by the DeKalb American Legion Post #66. Visitation will be held on Friday July 27, 2018 at 5:00PM till 7:00PM in the Finch Funeral Home with a Wake Service at 7:00PM.
