Richard H. Johnson

Richard H. Johnson 86 of Sycamore, died peacefully in the early morning hours of February 18, 2023. Richard was born with his twin Roger, on August 9, 1936. Richard was born to Minnie and Walter Johnson, in DeKalb, IL. He and Roger joined their older brothers William W. Johnson and Robert C. Johnson.  In 1954, Richard graduated from DeKalb High School and moved to Sycamore in 1971.

In the late 1930's, the brothers were separated because their parents were sent to a tuberculosis sanatorium. The boys were each placed with different family members for several months.

Richard served in the United States Army, and was stationed in Japan, beginning in 1959. Upon his discharge, Richard worked at Wurlitzer, then went to work as a manager of Johnson's Men's Wear for his brother Bill. The two brothers worked together for almost 30 years, until the four brothers bought the Hallmark store in Sycamore. Richard moved over to manage the Hallmark store until he retired.

He loved to take long walks around Sycamore, take care of his yard and flowers, and make his special Swedish coffee.

Richard is survived by his brothers Robert Johnson and Roger (Virginia) Johnson. Nieces and nephews, David (Ruth) Johnson, Mark (Deb) Johnson, Janine (Reggie) Richardson, Steve (Leslie) Johnson, Tim (Chris) Johnson, Karen (Chris) Daleo, and Jeff (Francie) Johnson, as well as many great nieces and nephews and a sister-in-law Carol Johnson.  He was preceded in death by his parents, brother William W. Johnson, sister-in-law Norma Johnson, and nephew Michael L. Johnson.
