Ricky K. "Buck" Beck January 18, 1952 – March 17, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ricky K. "Buck" Beck of DeKalb, a beloved father, grandfather, and friend. Rick, 73, passed away on March 17, 2025, surrounded by family who loved him deeply, and his dog, Finn.

Rick was born in Highland Park, Michigan on January 18, 1952, to Marshall K Beck and Jeanne Elizabeth Shores. He was the oldest of four boys, Larry, Dennis, and David. Rick attended Paw Paw High School graduating in 1970. While in high school Rick was a pitcher on the baseball team and played on the golf team.

After high school, Rick proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. He was tasked with walking the base perimeter with his loyal service dog, Jake. It was during this time that Rick's love for animals ignited. His bond with animals remained with him throughout his life, often seen in his devoted care for his own dogs.

After his military service, Rick worked for the Illinois Tollway, where he dedicated many years of his life before retiring. Outside of work, Rick's passions were varied, from his deep love for music to his appreciation for movies and photography. He enjoyed capturing nature's beauty through his camera lens and spending time outdoors with Finn, often going on long walks around his community.

Rick was a true handyman at heart, always tinkering, fixing things, and improving his home. He was deeply involved in his neighborhood, always ready to lend a hand to a neighbor in need. He was also an avid sports fan, cheering on the Chicago White Sox and Chicago Bears, following their seasons with enthusiasm.

Above all, Rick's greatest joy was his family. He rarely missed an opportunity to attend his children and grandchildren's athletic events, cheering them on with pride. Rick shared a special bond with his grandkids, often spoiling them and creating lasting memories full of laughter and love. He is survived by his two sons, Shawn Beck and Zach (Melissa) Beck, and their three children, Lily, Maddy, and Gabby Beck, all of DeKalb, brothers Larry (LuAnn) Beck of Paw Paw, Illinois, Dennis (Jackie) Beck of Rochelle, Illinois and David Beck of Silver Springs, Florida. He is survived by several nieces and a nephew.

Rick was a man of integrity, kindness, and generosity, with a quick wit that brought smiles to those around him. His legacy lives on through the countless lives he touched, from his family to his friends and neighbors. He will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A celebration of life will be held at Fatty's Pub & Grille on April 25th from 5-8pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Rick's memory to a local charity specializing in helping animals to honor Rick's lifelong love of animals.

Cremation rites and arrangements were entrusted to Finch Funeral Home 310 Oak St. DeKalb, IL 60115 815-758-3841.
