Roger Stanley Rowan, 82, of Hinsdale, Illinois, passed away peacefully on October 3, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He faced the disease with remarkable grace, bravery, and strength—living each day with positivity and determination, never allowing his illness to keep him from doing the things he loved.

Roger was born on January 23, 1943, to Carl and Ruth Rowan in Grayslake, Illinois. He graduated from Grayslake High School in 1961. In the early 1980s, Roger opened and operated his own auto repair business, The New Garage Sales and Services, located in downtown DeKalb, Illinois. In 1986, he began working as a lumber buyer for Edward Hines Lumber in Kirkland, Illinois, where he remained for fourteen years until his retirement in 2000.

After retiring and moving to Wisconsin, Roger quickly discovered that retirement wasn't for him and began working at Lake of the Torches Casino in Lac du Flambeau, Wisconsin.

One of Roger's favorite places was his parents' resort outside of Lac du Flambeau. Countless memories were made there—boating, skiing, gathering around campfires, and helping run the resort alongside his parents and siblings. Later in life, he shared that same special place with his children, nieces, and nephews. He loved the area so much that, upon retiring, he moved just down the road from his parents. In 2005, he returned to Illinois, where he lived until his passing.

Roger was known for his kindness, warmth, and quick wit. He was a deeply loved father, brother, uncle, and friend—admired for his sense of humor, infectious laugh, and a whistle that could be heard from blocks away. He was a rock to many and a father figure to a handful of his children' s friends.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Ruth Rowan, and his brothers, Carl and Jeff Rowan.

He is survived by his sister Julie Eaton; brothers Paul (Maxine) Rowan and Dennis Rowan; his children Matthew Rowan, Sarah (Lance) Lauderdale, Tony (Bethany) Rowan, and Daniel (Joell Tower) Rowan; his grandchildren Daniel Rowan Jr., Ryan, and William Rowan, and Alexandria, Amelia, and Montgomery Lauderdale; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.

In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place. A small family gathering to celebrate Roger's life will be held at a later date.
