Victoria C. Hansen

Victoria C. Hansen 97, of Sycamore passed away Thursday, February 23, 2023, at home surrounded by family. She was born November 26, 1925 in Chicago, IL and was the daughter of Walter and Anastasia (Ciciora) Workowski.

Victoria graduated from Burlington High School in 1944. She trained as a nurse at Mercy Hospital in Chicago as part of the United States Nurse Corp.

She married Harold R. Hansen on October 16, 1948, in Elgin, IL and he preceded her in death on December 30, 2005.

She was a former member of St. Thomas Moore Catholic Church in Elgin where she played the organ for many years as well as baked her famous Swedish Coffee Cakes that were ever so popular at the annual bazaars. She was a devoted member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Sycamore.

Victoria was a very special woman, raising seven children, she would often say, "God would never give me more than I could handle." She never complained and was always willing to help, even helping a neighbor deliver her baby. She made sure her mother and father were well taken care of after her father lost his arm in a farm accident and her mother was bedridden. Victoria welcomed in her children's friends in their time of need. She brought so much joy to not only her immediate family, but her relatives, neighbors and friends.

Survivors include; sons; David (Rosemary) Hansen of Hampshire, IL, William J. (Debra Grieve) Hansen of McHenry, IL. Daughters; Barbara (Terry) Petersen of Burlington, IL, Diane Sheppard of Stone Lake, WI, Mary Hansen of Sycamore, Janice (Rich) Baumgartner of Elgin, IL, and Joni (Tracy) Bird of Maryville, TN.  Sister; Evelyn Grechis of Charlotte, NC.  16 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Harold, and three brothers: Norbert, Emil, and Edward.

Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, February 28, 2023, at 10:30am at St. Mary Catholic Church in Sycamore with Father William Etheredge officiating. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 28, 2023, from 9:30am until the time of service at the church.  Burial will follow the luncheon at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Cemetery in Hampshire, IL. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the Victoria Hansen Memorial to be established at a later date.  Arrangements were entrusted to Finch Funeral Home 310 Oak St. DeKalb, IL 60115 815-758-3841.
