Died: September 12, 2023
William (Bill) Curran, 88, of DeKalb, IL, passed away Tuesday, September 12, 2023, at DeKalb Area Retirement Center, Oakcrest in DeKalb, Illinois.
He was born November 17, 1934, in Oak Park, IL, the son of Henry (Hank) and Cecilia (Herbert) Curran.   Bill married the love of his life Patricia A. Hartwig on September 3, 1955.

Bill graduated from York High School in Elmhurst IL in 1954 and he attended Purdue University.  Bill and Pat have been dating since seventh grade and just celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary on September 3, 2023.

Bill moved to Sycamore Illinois in 1962 to head up the family business Stahl Construction, later known as Curran Contracting.  He went on to manage Curran Group until his retirement in the year 2000.  Bill and his brother Jack were the third generation of Curran's at the company which now has the fourth and fifth Curran generations involved. The Curran group celebrated 100 years in business in 2018.  Bill was also on the board of directors of the National Bank and Trust Company of Sycamore for 32 years.  He was also Board President of the local YMCA during its initial construction and president of the Kishwaukee Country Club; as well as involved in many other local organizations.  Pat and Bill were devoted Bears fans and had season tickets for many years, attending the games regardless of the weather.  Pat and Bill are also long-time members of St Mary Catholic church in Sycamore.

After retirement Pat and Bill split their time between Sycamore/DeKalb, Green Lake Wisconsin, and wintered in Ft Myers Florida.  Bill was an avid golfer, and member of Kishwaukee Country Club in DeKalb and The Forest Country Club in Ft Myers.  They both loved their time and developed many friends over the years at all 3 locations.  Bill and Pat loved taking family vacations with their children. They frequented Ft. Lauderdale Florida, skied in Snowmass Colorado, and Snowmobiled in northern Wisconsin.  Their most memorable trip as a family was a celebration of their 50th wedding anniversary to Italy.

Bill's family is grateful for the kindness of the staff at Oakcrest who provided such wonderful support to him.  We are also appreciative for the support of the Pro Medica Hospice staff.

Bill is survived by his 4 children, Dan (Mary) Curran, Kim Curran, Bill (Janaan) Curran, and Kelly Curran as well as 10 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren.

He is proceeded in death by his parents, his brother Jack (Linda) Curran, his sisters, Peg (Art) Simon, Judy (Dick) Pokorny and four grandchildren.
